Costs for the restoration of heritage properties can be prohibitive, particularly when major items such as windows are replaced with brand new items. Typically though, it's only the bottom sections of such items that suffer damage and decay.
An alternative (and much more cost-effective) approach is to repair the existing wood, rather than making unnecessary replacements.
We are experts in the repair of wood that has become rotten or decayed, using the three stage wood care system:
1 - Inspect the condition of the wood, checking for damage to joints, surface cracks and exposed end-grain, as well as moisture ingress, condition of hardware such as hinges, weather seals and faulty previous repairs.
This stage allows us to assess the extent of remedial work required, and provide an insight into costs.
2 - Restore the condition of the substrate, using a combination of preventative methods and renovation techniques. This includes repairing opened joints, splits, cracks, knots and unprotected end-grain.
3 - Apply quality paint such as Dulux Weathershield, to protect the wood from the elements. |
